SimplyDrive is a UK-based platform designed to connect driving learners with certified instructors, making it easier to find, book, and manage practical driving lessons. As the UI/UX Designer, I designed the product from scratch, focusing on creating a simple experience for both sides of the marketplace — learners looking for flexible driving practice and instructors looking to grow their client base.

Building a driving lesson marketplace from scratch
problem
Finding a reliable driving instructor and booking lessons was often time-consuming, with learners relying on fragmented information and limited availability. After completing driving school, many learners — particularly expats adapting to UK road rules — still needed additional practice but lacked an easy way to find suitable instructors and track their progress.
Instructors faced a different set of challenges: inefficient scheduling, cancellations, downtime, and limited opportunities to attract new students.
The challenge was to create a platform that could solve both sides of the marketplace while making the process of learning and teaching more convenient.
solution
I designed SimplyDrive as an end-to-end platform connecting learners and instructors, focusing on three core experiences:
- Seamless lesson booking — learners can search and filter instructors by location, price, availability, and reviews, then select a time and pickup location and book a lesson.
- Real-time communication & tracking — integrated notifications and live GPS tracking allow learners to see when their instructor is on the way and improve safety and coordination.
- Progress tracking & feedback — instructors can record specific driving skills practiced during each lesson and provide feedback, giving learners a clear picture of their development over time.
- Instructor management — instructors can manage availability, bookings, and their profiles, helping them reduce downtime and attract more students.
The experience was designed around the needs of both personas, creating a marketplace where learners gain flexibility and transparency while instructors gain more control over their work and earning opportunities.
